Garden Zoomies

Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.” -Genesis 1:29 NLT.

This is probably one of my favorite bible verses because I get to see it come to life every time I go out in the garden. I’m always in awe when I notice one my plants bolting, then start to produce flowers that will eventually give me seeds for future planting. To me, it feels as if it’s God’s way of saying, “I love you and Ive got you.”

Or the fact that I can pick a fresh peach off my peach tree, cut the peach in half, clean and dry the pit in the middle, then crack it and retrieve the internal seed to grow another peach tree. And then repeat the cycle. I could basically grow a peach forest off just one peach. That’s God’s perfect design.

Lets not forget that God isn’t a genie in bottle who grants us three wishes. Instead he works behind the scenes so the seed can grow, but the seed is worthless without our labor. If a seed sits in a pack, it can never turn into a forest. But when we steward that seed: place it in soil, water it and tend to it, then and only then does it have the opportunity to grow.

And one super important thing that I’ve learned is that not every seed I plant will grow. For every 10 seeds I plant, about 7-8 will grow. That just means that sometimes a seed growing is simply not in God’s will, and that’s okay. That’s where faith and surrender come into play.

Back to Genesis 1:29, I love it. I see it in the garden but it also goes beyond the garden. A seed can be carried in your heart, and the same principles of growing a sunflower or a peach tree from seed apply to the other seeds in our lives. And I just thought that was really cool.

Moral of the story, grow something from seed and experience Genesis 1:29 with your own hands and eyes.
